The Movie Ticket

How Is the Executive Order on Amnesty Like a Movie Ticket??

Once upon a time there was a man who owned a movie theatre.  He oversaw the functioning of the theater and played movies the people wanted to see.  Each day the movie theatre opened and people stood in line to buy their tickets.  After they bought tickets to the desired movie, they would go into the lobby and wait to be let into the screening room.

One day the owner of the theatre went down to visit his theatre he noticed many people outside.  They were people who wanted to see the movies he had playing but they could not afford a ticket.  Day after day this continues with more people outside wanting to see the movies but not able or willing to pay to buy a ticket.  “It’s not fair” some of them cried.  “the movies should be free” said others.  But some found ways to earn some money or kept saving their meager pennies until they had enough to finally buy their ticket and join the others in the lobby to watch the movie.

Eventually some of the people outside decided they could sneak into the movies and devised a way to do it.  They were successful! Management noticed this and told the owner about it, but the owner felt so bad about the people not being able to see the movie that he didn’t do anything about it.  This concerned the management as the weeks went by and sure enough, the number of people sneaking in began to grow.

The management and now the people who had paid for their tickets complained to the owner whenever they saw him.  The owner thought of a solution to the problem! The next day he went down to the theatre and began handing out tickets to the people outside.  He then took them as a group into the screening room where the movie would be shown.  This angered the people in the lobby and the management even more.  Now not only were others getting in without paying for their ticket, but now there were not enough seats in the theater for those who HAD purchased their ticket and they would now have to wait for seats to open up an another time.  This also made the group of people waiting outside the theater grow as word spread that the manager was handing out free tickets!

Day after day and week after week this was the solution the owner employed as the people who had bought their tickets became more and more angry!  Not only were they STILL waiting to see the movie they had paid for, but they also heard that the price for tickets had gone up to compensate for all the free tickets being given away so the theatre could keep running.

To make matters even worse, some people who had received the free tickets were now also getting free popcorn and candy and drinks.  The owner told the angry crowd that it wasn’t the fault of these poor people, and they should be able to see the movies and have the drinks and treats everyone else payed for.  He would just increase the price from all his paying customers and then everyone could have a good time at the movies.

The people became angrier and angrier with the manager.  Many decided that IF they should ever get to watch the movie they had paid for, they would intentionally NOT purchase the treats and they would rather go without than have to pay a ridiculous price so everyone else could have it for free.  They felt like chumps.

Many people got out of line and went home deciding that they would just never get to see the movie since this was the only movie theatre that was showing the movie.  Others felt they had paid too high a price for the rising costs of the tickets to bail out and stayed day after day in the lobby waiting for their turn to come since each day there was room enough for one or two paid ticket holders to watch the movie.  Eventually, they thought, they will get in and see the movie.

The owner never did see a problem with his solution, even though more and more people were getting in for free, some still even sneaking in.

Now, I don’t know a single person personally who wouldn’t be upset by this situation if they had been the person who bought the ticket and waited in the lobby.  But some of those same people are all to happy to agree with the executive order by the President to grant amnesty to over 5 million illegal immigrants.  And just like the owner in the story, he doesn’t understand why this makes people angry or why it’s not going to fix the problem.
